Maharashtrian Ambat Goda Dal Recipe
A vegetarian Maharashtrian Recipes recipe with arhar dal (split toor dal), tamarind water, jaggery. Ready in 1h, serves 4.

To begin making the Ambat Goda Dal we will soak the dal in water for about 30 minutes
tamarind water(1/2 cup)maharashtrian goda masala(3/4 tablespoon) - 2
After soaking cook the dal with the water, salt and turmeric powder and pressure cook for about 4 whistle till it is well cooked
tamarind water(1/2 cup)turmeric powder (haldi)(1/4 teaspoon) - 3
Once done, keep it aside to release the pressure by itself

Meanwhile you can heat a kadai with oil and keep it ready

Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds and allow them to splutter for few seconds
mustard seeds(1 teaspoon)cumin seeds (jeera)(1 teaspoon)methi seeds (fenugreek seeds)(1 teaspoon) - 6
Once done add the curry leaves and allow it to crackle
sprig coriander (dhania) leaves - chopped(1)sprig curry leaves(2) - 7
Add a pinch oh hing and chopped green chilli and saute till it softens for about 10 seconds
sprig coriander (dhania) leaves - chopped(1)pinch asafoetida (hing)(1)green chilli - chopped(2) - 8
Add the cooked dal and tamarind water together and allow it to cook in simmer
tamarind water(1/2 cup) - 9
At this point you can add the goda masala and salt
maharashtrian goda masala(3/4 tablespoon) - 10
Cook for another 10 more minutes till you get the desired consistency

Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve
sprig coriander (dhania) leaves - chopped(1)sprig curry leaves(2) - 12
Serve the Ambat Goda Dal with steamed rice and a dollop of ghee over it with a Kadai Vegetable Sabzi Recipe along side and a homemade pickle to go along with it for a comforting meal
