Chettinad Thakkali Sadam Recipe (Chettinad Style Tomato Rice)

To begin making Chettinad Takkali Sadam Recipe, cook the rice to a fluffy texture and keep aside
rice - cooked(2 cups) - 2
Also, coarsely pound the ginger, garlic and fennel seeds using a mortar and pestle and keep aside
inch ginger - roughly chopped(1)to 4 cloves garlic(3)fennel seeds (saunf)(1 teaspoon) - 3
Heat ghee in a pan on medium flame, add the cinnamon stick and cloves and let it splutter
cinnamon stick (dalchini)(1)cloves (laung)(2)ghee(1 tablespoon)to 4 cloves garlic(3) - 4
Add the ginger, garlic and fennel seeds mix and saute until the raw smell goes away
inch ginger - roughly chopped(1)to 4 cloves garlic(3)fennel seeds (saunf)(1 teaspoon) - 5
Add the curry leaves and sliced onions and saute until the onions turn translucent
onion - thinly sliced(1)mint leaves (pudina) - fistfulcoriander (dhania) leaves - small bunchsprig curry leaves(1) - 6
Add the tomatoes and saute until its half cooked
rice - cooked(2 cups)tomatoes - finely chopped(2) - 7
Now, add the slit green chilli, red chilli powder, mint and coriander leaves and mix well
red chilli powder(1 teaspoon)green chilli - slit(1)mint leaves (pudina) - fistfulcoriander (dhania) leaves - small bunchsprig curry leaves(1) - 8
Season with salt and cook the mix until the tomatoes are well cooked and the whole mixture comes together
rice - cooked(2 cups)tomatoes - finely chopped(2)salt - to taste - 9
This will take around 10 minutes

Now, add the cooked rice and mix it evenly using a fork

Let it simmer for 5 minutes and switch off the flame
